Song Cover Art Rules: 3000 × 3000 Size and What Stores Reject

Your cover art is the first thing people see on Spotify, JioSaavn or Instagram — often as a tiny square on a phone. Stores also check it before your song goes live, and a wrong cover is one of the most common reasons a release gets sent back.

The size rule

The cover must be a square image of exactly 3000 × 3000 pixels. Not 1080 × 1080 from Instagram, not a rectangle from a phone camera — exactly 3000 × 3000. Most free design apps let you set this size before you start.

What must NOT be on the cover

• Website links, email addresses or phone numbers.
• Logos of stores or apps (Spotify, JioSaavn, YouTube, Instagram and so on).
• Words like “Out now”, “New song” or prices — the cover stays the same for years.
• Blurry, stretched or pixelated photos.
• Images you don't have the right to use (photos from the internet, film stills, other artists' pictures).

Simple design tips

• Keep it simple — one clear photo or design, not many small pictures.
• Check how it looks very small, the size of a thumbnail on a phone.
• If you write the song title and artist name, make them big and easy to read, and spell them exactly as in your song details.
• Use your own photo shoot or an image you created yourself.

Before you upload
